Our Principles

These principles help guide our campfires and shape the kind of community we’re creating together. By participating in an OpenCampfire, you agree to uphold them.

They are our founding principles. As our community grows, we’ll continue to learn, reflect, and evolve them together.

Here are our founding principles:

1. Belonging is built together

We co-create belonging through kindness, curiosity, listening, and mutual respect.

2. Lived experience is valued

You don’t need to be an expert. Lived experience is a valuable form of wisdom and has a place around the campfire.

3. Choose how you participate

You are welcome to share, reflect, or simply be present. There is no pressure to speak. Active listening is valuable participation.

4. No advice. Just reflections

We listen with curiosity. With permission, we offer reflections from our own lived experience, rather than trying to give advice.

5. Curiosity before certainty

We don’t assume we know someone else’s story. We ask, explore, and remain open to being surprised.

6. We all help tend the fire

Every act of kindness, listening and reflection keeps the campfire alive.
